at the closing of the day
The gamblin’ boys would hang their drippin’ raincoats down below decks
and lose their next month’s paycheck

When summer breeze came from the east we’d put to port at New York
and get our feet on shore
Then, Lord, we’d carry on all night; drink ‘til we was ailing
But it was better when we were sailing

Sail on, Majestic, for the borderline
Running rum and moonshine
Sail on, Majestic, blowing through my mind
Those were simpler times

The sky was growing dark, the captain told us, “boys, be brave,
and we’ll make Montego Bay,”
It was no less that a hurricane, and we lost most our load
So we toasted what the ocean stole

So times were good, and times were bad, at times we didn’t know
How near we were to Davy Jones
But we weathered it together, singing shanties like a symphony
And hijinks on the high seas

Long ago, good ship Majestic ran her final run
and now she’s rotting in the sun

and I can’t get my raincoat on

But brine is in my blood, so when I die, don’t bury me
